Ok let’s start with the good points, the Car Play system is great, it works really well, it’s great being truly wireless and the sound is great (once you’ve set it up to your tastes in the equaliser settings). Now the few points that are why I didn’t give it 4 stars, it would be better if when in Carplay mode, that the scroll button on the steering wheel was either exclusively for the BMWs Radio, or for Carplay, I would prefer the former as if you’ve got the radio playing and you want to use Google Maps say (albeit silent but I’ll come to that), when you use the steering wheel scroll to adjust the radio, it operates the Carplay, so say you pick Radio 1, you inadvertently select Messages on the Carplay or some other setting as it operates both at the same time. The other main point is that obviously as it operates through the Aux mode, if you switch to Radio, you can’t hear what’s going on on Carplay, you wouldn’t be able to take a call say or hear the SatNav (Google Maps) directions. Don’t let this put you off though it’s a great, neat system and installation really isn’t that complicated for the average DIY’er, however I would say the instructions to put the box above the glove box aren’t necessarily the best place, there’s a nice void between the glove box and the radio that tucks away better, I lined that area with sticky loop velcro and used a hook length of velcro to strap in down. On a side note don’t pair this with the Unique AD reverse camera for BMW as it’s woeful, I’ve popped a review in there for it.

Hi David, thanks for your time for leaving the feedback.

As CarPlay is not factory fitted, it will need to share controls with your factory buttons. Our CarPlay solution will allow you to listen to factory radio and in the same time display map apps on the screen. If you would like to change the radio channel, you can exit CarPlay and then select the radio channel. Alternatively, you can listen to radio via apps for example TuneIN, or listen to music via Apple music. Amazon music or Spotify, then you will be able to hear the music and also the traffic instructions.

You will need to select AUX to be able to hear sound from CarPlay. If you would like to receive and make phone calls when you are listening to the radio, please connect your phone to factory Bluetooth, so you can still have your phone calls handled by car’s Bluetooth as before.

Hope this helps. Apologies the camera image quality is not satisfactory. We have noted your feedback and are working on improving our range of BMW cameras.
